§ 15-63. Permit required.

  • The director of public works may allow, by written permit, any person to make a temporary excavation for necessary purposes of utility or to place obstructions of a temporary character, such as building material, where the placing of same upon the streets or sidewalks is necessary in the conduct of any work under progress, provided that such obstructions or excavations shall be made under the direction and supervision of the director of public works. He may in all cases require the applicant to furnish bond and surety to hold the city harmless in the event of any damages resulting to the party by reason of such excavation or obstruction. In all cases of obstruction or excavation, barricades and warning lights, etc., shall be placed and kept at both ends of the obstruction or excavation from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. by the party obtaining the permit.
