§ 21-216. Minimum requirements.

  • (a)

    Off-street automobile parking space shall be provided on any lot or plot on which any of the following uses are hereafter established; or within three hundred (300) feet thereof. Such space shall be provided with vehicular access to street or alley and shall be deemed to be required open space associated with the permitted use and shall not hereafter be reduced or encroached upon in any manner.

    (b)

    Buildings and land uses shall be provided with such off-street automobile parking space as follows:

    (1)

    Dwellings, including one- and two-family dwellings and apartment houses. One (1) parking space for each dwelling unit.

    (2)

    Rooming houses. One (1) parking space for each four (4) guest sleeping rooms.

    (3)

    Tourist homes, cabins and motels. One (1) parking space for each guest sleeping room.

    (4)

    Private clubs and lodges. One (1) parking space for each ten (10) persons on the membership roster.

    (5)

    Hospitals and institutions. One (1) parking space for each four (4) beds, plus one (1) parking space for each staff physician or surgeon, plus additional spaces for ambulances and delivery trucks.

    (6)

    Mortuaries and funeral parlors. One (1) parking space for each fifty (50) square feet of floor space in a chapel and/or assembly rooms used for services, plus additional spaces for delivery vehicles.

    (7)

    Theaters, auditoriums or other places of public assembly. One (1) parking space for each twenty (20) seats.

    (8)

    Churches. One (1) parking space for each twenty (20) seats.

    (9)

    Schools. One (1) parking space for each classroom in addition to auditorium.

    (10)

    Hotels. One (1) parking space for each four (4) sleeping rooms.

    (11)

    Offices, clinics, public buildings and similar places of business. One (1) parking space for each five hundred (500) square feet of floor space.

    (12)

    General business, stores or shops for services and trade. One (1) parking space for each five hundred (500) square feet of floor space.

    (13)

    Other commercial, warehouse, industrial and manufacturing establishments. One (1) parking space for each five (5) working people, based on peak employment and adequate space for loading and unloading vehicles.

    (c)

    Where such parking spaces cannot be reasonably provided on the same lot with the principal use or within three hundred (300) feet thereof, the mayor and city council may permit such space to be located on other off-street property, by issuing a special permit as provided for in sections 21-61 and 21-62.
