§ 5-33. Impounding, redemption of dogs.

  • A dog found running at large in violation of section 5-31 which is not immediately destroyed and can easily and successfully be caught by any enforcement officer as outlined in section 5-32 of this article shall be impounded. Such dog shall be impounded for a period of five (5) days excluding weekends. Such dogs impounded may be redeemed by the owner or keeper during this time by paying a fee of ten dollars ($10.00) plus two dollars ($2.00) per day for each day or part of a day of impoundment. Such dog shall not be released unless it has been properly vaccinated against rabies. No impounded dog can be redeemed and/or adopted without being properly immunized by the owner or prospective owner. No impounded dog can be adopted without being properly sterilized.
