§ 5-56. Notice of impounding; sale to highest bidder.

  • (a)

    Immediately upon the impounding of any animals prohibited from running at large in the city or on the George R. Carr Memorial Airfield or Bogalusa Industrial Park, the poundkeeper shall post a notice on the principal front door of the city hall. If horses, mules, or cattle are impounded, a notice shall be published in the next issue of the official journal of the city, correctly describing the animals impounded, as nearly as possible, and the city shall use every reasonable effort to notify the owners of the impounding. This notice shall state the time the animal was impounded and the day, hour and place at which it will be sold, or disposed of.

    (b)

    Cows, horses or mules shall not be sold until the seventh day after being impounded, and if the seventh day falls on a holiday or a Sunday, the sale shall take place on the next day. The stock shall be sold to the highest bidder for cash without appraisal.
