§ 19-42. Method of disposal; when connection required.

  • All buildings in the city used for human habitation or for business purposes shall be provided with one (1) of the following methods of sewage disposal:

    (1)

    Where there is an established public sewerage system as of the date of this section and ample water supply available, located within three hundred (300) feet of any property in the city having any such building thereon, such buildings shall be equipped with all necessary plumbing fixtures to insure proper, adequate and sanitary disposal of all human excretion or sewage of any kind or nature whatsoever. Such facilities shall be provided with, and connected to a public sewer line or lines, which building sewer line or lines shall be connected with the public sewerage system.

    (2)

    Within ninety (90) days of receipt of notice from the city that a public sanitary sewer is accessible to a house or building used for human occupancy, employment, or recreation, the owner shall, at his own expense install suitable toilet facilities therein and shall connect the facilities by means of a building drain and a building sewer to the accessible public sanitary sewer.

    (3)

    Where a public sewerage system is not within three hundred (300) feet and adequate water supply is available, sewage may be disposed of by a properly designed and constructed septic tank and subsurface disposal field or sand filter. Such facilities shall conform with the requirements on such facilities contained in section 16, chapter 10-A of the state sanitary code.
