§ 6-141. Installation standards.

  • All electrical work of any kind or nature as herein provided shall be done in compliance with the current National Electrical Code. All equipment/appliances installed in the city shall be listed by the underwriters laboratory or a third party's independent testing laboratory.

    (1)

    In all buildings hereafter erected, service entrance wiring shall conform to the minimum standards set by the utility provider. In addition to the utility minimum standards, the service mast (stack) and the ground wire conduit must be rigid metal. All customer installed service entrance wiring shall be copper. Knob and tube wiring is prohibited.

    (2)

    Electrical contractors must have a sign displayed in a conspicuous place giving the name and telephone number of the electrical contractor executing the electrical work on all work sites executed by him or her.

    (3)

    All service drops will be rated at least one hundred (100) amps.

    (4)

    Any electrical work of any kind shall satisfactorily fulfill the purpose for which installed and all work must be executed in a neat and workmanlike manner. Work not in keeping with good electrical practice shall be classed as defective and shall be corrected by the person causing same.

    (5)

    Ground rods must be at least 5/8 inches × 8 feet - 0 inches copper clad solid rods. Water pipe is not acceptable.

    (6)

    Installations having two (2) or more meters shall have each meter pan/loop tagged, giving the street or apartment number or unit number that it serves.
